On
behalf of the Poplar Chamber & Commerce I would like to invite and
welcome you to experience our historic town of Poplar. The Poplar area
has much to offer and is rich in history & culture.
While visiting Poplar, step down and enjoy our Western Heritage,
hospitality, Wild West Days, numerous Indian Celebrations, the mighty
Missouri River & Badlands as well as the fishing, abundant wild life and
most of all the friendly People of Poplar.
Visit Poplar Museum housed in the old jail, one of the original
buildings of the Fort Peck Reservation. Inside, the cell doors no longer
clang but the names of prisoners remain deeply scratched in the brick
walls. You're surrounded by vibrant color Star quilts which have become
a trade mark of the area, hang from every corner and intricate beadwork
reveals the skill of our Sioux & Assiniboine people. Treasures await you
among the many items for sale.
Located just off Highway 2, in the Museum yard is the ferryboat to
transport passengers across the Missouri River. This ferry was one of
the few who once had a woman at her helm.
Poplar is the reservation headquarters for Assiniboine & Siuox Tribes.
Two tribal industries and many small businesses provide economic
stability for our community. We have a Public Library, Tribal Archives,
Tennis Courts, Swimming Pool and Fort Peck Community College.
This year you plan your vacation across US Highway 2, make our town a
must on your itinerary. Stop and stay awhile to explore & see what our
area has to offer, you won't be disappointed.
